“Siya Khumbula” (“We remember” in isiZulu) is an ongoing project that seeks to bring out the hidden stories from the apartheid era around the city of Johannesburg through AR. With the use of a smartphone and downloading an application, a pedestrian can walk around different neighbourhoods and explore some of the objects, spaces, and buildings, usually a landmark of the places. When the citizen or tourist point with their cell phone the landmark as they were taking a photograph, an animation will pop-up, revealing the history behind.
