DLA first round of residencies in France came to an end on 1 July
The departure from Paris on the 1st of July 2017 of Shariffa Ali & Yetunde Dada, DLA winners in the VR category, put an end to four months of ongoing DLA residencies in France. DLA incubees’ residency time provided them with the unique opportunity to work on-site with their respective mentors (ARTE, Okio-Studio, CCCP, Keewu Production & 1D Touch) & top French professionals of the industry.
The DLA incubation program was critical to the success of Shariffa Ali & Yetunde Dada’s VR project Round Round. The VR film is indeed set to be the first ever Virtual Reality coproduction between France and South Africa, as Antoine Cayrol, DLA mentor of the project & Okio-Studio’s founder, decided to produce it. Round Round should go to production by end year.
The DLA incubation program has also led to promising achievements among the other 2016 DLA incubees, who had a chance to meet with potential partners. Winners for Transmedia, South African TH Films’ executives John DeVries & Greg Kriek raised attention from several producers, including La Générale de Production, with their series Reborn – The Tryptic. Winner for Web Creation, Nigerian cartoonist Ayodele Elegba, had productive meetings with Canal+, TV5 Monde, Gulli & Gulli Africa, who showed high interest in his animation web series Area Daddy. Ivorian collective Work’D, winner for Video Game with Points, drowned the attention of Orange Innovation, while gaining valuable insights from their DLA mentor, indie game studio CCCP. On his side, Congolese Baya Ciamala, winner for Digital Music with his platform Baziks Pulse, benefited from the expertise of 1D Touch and other DLA partners, including Believe Digital, Trace & 1D Lab.
After this first successful round of residencies, DLA Team is now getting prepared for the launch of DLA #2 and the next call for projects at DISCOP Joburg, from 25 to 27 October 2017!
