Residency program in France begins on 19 June for Shariffa Ali & Yetunde Dada, 2016 VR DLA winner with Round Round.
Shariffa Ali & Yetunde Dada arrive in Paris to sustain momentum and keep developing their 360° immersive art film & dance experience, Round Round. It is set to be the first ever Virtual Reality coproduction between France and South Africa, as VR studio director & DLA mentor Antoine Cayrol from Okio-Studio decided to take a step further and produce Round Round.
Following several months of on-distance mentorship they will work closely with Antoine Cayrol, aiming at finalising the artistic & financial proposal to raise funding in France and go to production by end year.
During the two weeks of the residency, they will attend a series of meetings and will benefit from all the facilities and support offered by La Nurserie Culture & Innovation, Audiens’ incubator supporting innovative projects within the Cultural and Creative Industries.
On Friday 30 June, as part of their DLA incubation program, Round Round team will attend the Paris Virtual Film Festival, the first festival to bring together VR and Cinema. This will be for them a great opportunity to meet with France top VR professionals and learn from the best in the industry.
Shariffa & Yetunde are the last of the 5 DLA 2016 winners to complete their incubation program and go to France in residency. DLA winner for Web Creation, Nigerian Ayodele Elegba, is currently finishing-up his own residency in France that brought him to the Annecy Festival and Paris.
They were preceded in France by Digital Music laureate Baya Ciamala (founder of Afro-Congolese online music platform Baziks Pulse, RDC), and by the Reborn – The Triptych project team, TH Films John DeVries & Greg Kriek from Cape Town. As for the members of Ivorian start-up Work’D, winners of the Video Game category, they completed their own incubation program by 11 June with their DLA partner CCCP in Valenciennes.
