Xavier Kawa-Topor is a historian, an author and a director of cultural institutions. In 1993, he became director of the European Centre for Medieval Art and Civilisation in Conques. In 1997, he joined the Forum des Images as Director of Educational Action. He created the festival “Nouvelles images du Japon”. The same year, Xavier Kawa-Topor was appointed director of the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud – Centre Culturel de Rencontre. The monument becomes an international writing residence for animation authors and directors. To date, the Fontevraud residence has welcomed more than 150 authors from 30 different countries. The films produced received nearly 500 festival awards. In 2015, the project led to the creation of NEF Animation, a professional research and development platform for animation film. Xavier Kawa-Topor is a member of the Comité Animation des Césars and vice-chairman of the Commission d’aide sélective à la distribution (CNC). Trainer and lecturer at the university, he has published numerous studies on animation cinema, notably Cinéma d’animation au-delà du réel and Le Cinéma d’Animation en 100 films (co-direction with Philippe Moins) published by Capricci (2016).
